HydroClear

The purpose of the Hydro Clear Water Management Scheme is to ensure that a buildings water services comply with the Water Supply Regulations 1999, and are designed and maintained in a manner that is in accordance with the Health And Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and the COSHH regulations 2002 relating to the risks from hazardous micro organisms, including Legionella and chemicals such as biocides and chlorine.

The Approved Code of Practice L8 is the HSE's guidance which outlines the recommended requirements for the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems.

HSG 274 outlines what businesses must do to comply with L8. This is a more practical guide. These measures include risk assessments, monitoring and control of Legionella risk. Divided into three parts: Part I -Cooling Towers Part II -Hot and Cold Water Systems Part III -Any other risk systems (specifically where water spray is produced through an aerosol)

The Health Trust Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 relates to all healthcare sites including public and private hospitals, clinics and medical centres. Similar to L8 and HSG 274, HTM 04-01 is a more stringent form of water management designed to protect those most vulnerable to Legionella, including elderly and immunosuppressed patients.

The Code places responsibility on employers and others to:

1. Identify and assess source of risk

2. Prepare a scheme for preventing or controlling risk

3. Implementing and management of the scheme of precautions

4. Keep records of implemented precautions

It is the objective of Hydrotech Services Ltd to provide the knowledge and facilities to achieve the above. We will identify risk areas in the system and implement a program of refurbishment, upgrade or renewal, and subsequent system management.

The aims are to ensure:

1. All water systems are in a safe and manageable state.

2. All systems are maintained, cleansed and tested and pertinent.

Particular emphasis is on the control, management and prevention of legionellosis. The company's prime objective is to set up and maintain a managed water system regime for each client in accordance with the HSE Guidance document ACoP L8 The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems
